What went well?I think that the final production of the ident went well as the outcome was a well made, professional looking ident which matches the theme of Dave's channel while also meeting my own goals of reducing the formal element of Dave's brand and making it more homely, as a car park is a very standard location that most people would see very frequently, possibly even almost daily. What would you do differently? If I were to redo the ident, I would use a tripod and dolly so that the shot was more stable and didn't require so much manual stabilisation in post. The only reason I didn't use this equipment on the day is because there was only a shoulder mount camera available for use, however the overall outcome was still a good one. I would also be more hesitant with the sounds used on the end of the ident as they sound almost too stock comedy, which takes away from the rest of the ident a little right at the end. What did you enjoy?I really enjoyed going out and filming on location, using props and actors, as it gave a sense that we where actually making something rather than just filming around the school and trying to transform that imagery into something else. I also enjoyed playing around with different logo ideas before creating the final design. What have you learnt?Throughout this project, I have learnt the significance of TV idents, and how important it is that their content fits not only the corporate identity of the channel, but also the theme of the show that follows it.
I have also learnt some of the steps that are required in the pre-production stages of creating an ident, filming on location and filming with actors and props. I also learnt some of the difficulties with the above as actors and props may not be available at certain times, meaning shoots have to be delayed, on top of this, when filming on location, it is quite stressful to ensure that you do not cause an obstruction for the people around you. When filming our ident we where lucky that there where few people around in that area of the car park, but we still tried to make our takes as short and steady as possible to ensure that we didn't obstruct anyone for too long. Overall, throughout this course, I have gathered a great deal of knowledge on this subject through my research and learnt many very important skills that can be be applied to the production process in general.
